Default Ghetto rigging heater hose

So last night on my way home from work my heater valve/inlet hose broke open and caked my entire passenger side engine bay with coolant which in turn kept overheating (or so said the sensor) and resulted in limping my car home. My idle was also purging, most likely due to the fitv acting up from the lack of coolant pressure. ANYWAYS, I was wondering if I can take the good parts of tubing out of the broken piece (just up by the bend where it enters the block) and plug the block and down by the valve for a temporary fix. Its my only vehicle so I really need to to be functional, I have already talked to my parts guy and he will have a new hose ordered Monday. Just sucks having no heat in Minnesota this time of year...

The idle was probably purging due to the fact that your engine had no coolant in it. If the engine coolant temp sensor is left high and dry it will send false readings to your ECU. With little or no coolant running through the head you were probably close to overheating...if you didn't.

As long as you block off both ends, the block and the heater core, then fill and bleed the coolant system you should be fine... Sucks not having heat this time of year......

In an 8 mile drive I stopped about once every mile and let it cool off for about 15 minutes.. lol A 15 minute drive took me about an hour and a half. I went home and drained the entire system. I have an idea for a hose+plug that should work fine for the next week, thanks.

you could also just buy some hose from the parts store and cut a piece off that will work in the place that broke.

Like I said, I have a parts guy (Honda dealership master tech who is a family friend) who already ordered me the molded hose. It has a sharp almost 90 degree angle where it enters the block that would almost certainly get kinked.
