Default b16a leaking oil from head on passenger side. new headgasket, still does it.

whats up HT i replaced my head gasket i few days ago, my previous gasket didnt blow, so my oil was never a different color, no water in it, the car ran fine, and it didnt smoke. i replaced the gasket because it had a real small leak coming from the head, right under the vtec solenoid. the oil would seep out and just sit on the block and run down the tranny. when i removed the head studs they were pretty lose and supposedly the motor was oem rebuilt. i put a new felpro gasket on and reused the head studs they are arp's i did not get the head machined either. i just put the new gasket on re torqued the studs and started it put coolant in it and let it run for a minute. i walked over and looked at the motor and it was leaking from the same spot. pretty bad, maybe eve worse then before.. i guess my question is, is does anyone think the head is warped? or possibly the block?? or could it just be these studs are to stretched out to be reused. this is my DD and im afraid if i drive it now with this leak it'll just warp the head or blow this gasket. please help!!!

leak was more than likely FROM the solenoid, and no need to replace the headgasket at all. Not to mention a Felpro, instead of OEM.

Time to break out the pictures.

i'll try to post some later. i replaced the vtec solenoid gasket, but there is a leak coming from the other round seal. but you can clearly see it coming from the head

Did you hand tighten the studs again before you re-installed the head? Did you install the head gasket upside down? 9 times out of ten for a head gasket to be puking profusely like this, its either not torqued enough, which means your studs werent tightener fastened to the block when you tightened the head down. I had 6 head studs come loose when removing my head both times off my block, every time you have to retighten the studs to ensure they are properly hand torqued. The gasket also has an indicator on it that says UP on one side of the gasket, this is true of all aftermarket head gaskets.

yes the gasket was put in correctly, and i first torqued it to spec, which was 22ft-lbs then 61ft-lbs it was leaking even worse, so i said **** it and torqued it to 81ft-lbs because i read that people were torquing it to 81 its not leaking as bad as it was at 61ft-lbs. should i torque it more then 81??

no, torquing it more then the head studs are recommended to have on them wont help the gasket sealing issue, something else is wrong. Generally when you do a head gasket your supposed to at least have the head checked for flatness as its the most common thing to warp. Were the two surfaces clean when you reinstalled the gasket?

i reused arp head studs. is it a possibility that my head is warped on that one side? like i said before the gasket before didnt blow, it was leaking on this same side, i figured a new gasket would fix the leak

yes both the block and head were cleaned. i could afford taking it to a machine shop.. i just assumed it was a gasket issue in the first place.

It's possible its warped, but something definitely when severely wrong during the gasket change. Did you spray anything on the gasket? What did you use to clean the surfaces? You didnt use any sand paper or anything did you?

Im not sure where to point the finger in this instance, but I can tell you the fact that its a felpro gasket isnt the cause. Ive used felpro and victor reinz in my motors for 10 years now, never had a problem as long as the sealing surfaces were ok.
