Crx Si sunroof help!!!
Ok guys I have an issue and need some help fast. I bought one of those ebay carbon fiber sunroof replacements and did the install today. Let me just say I've never been so mad and disappointed in my life. It was a complete piece of $230 crap and I don't recommend anyone buying those things. It didn't fit at all and all the mounting points where off. Anyhow this is my problem, I, like an idiot used 3m Weatherstrip adhesive on the original panel seal to glue it onto the carbon one. But since the carbon was so out of shape it didn't seal right. I have an OEM panel (should've done that in the first place) on its way to me.
How do I remove this freshly added 3m gasket glue from the channel so I can reuse it on the oem panel? We all know this part is discontinued so this is my only option. The seal itself is in good condition, just need to get it cleaned. Please tell me what to do!

Its an OEM Honda unit. Ill be reusing the seal holders and all the original hardware. My only problem is, I dont know how to get the silicone out of the seal without tearing it up. I wont have any luck sourcing another one.

you can experiment with silicone removers that do not harm rubber.
The carbon unit is the one from VAS racing off ebay. I had to mess around with the brackets just to get them to align. The biggest issue is, on the drivers side, there is a 1/4" gap!!! on the passenger side it sits flush. From the front it sits high and on the rear it sits low. Its also warped and I see no fixing it.
Any brands you have in mind?

no brands, what i would suggest is use the same silicone you need to dissolve, let it cure and then try various things on it.

Gotta watch those parts off ebay... I ordered a dizzy off there and it was f****d so thank god they had 30 day return. went to autozone got one local and worked fine.. just cost more money! As far as CRX sunroofs... best to try to find oem replacements if ordering online... aftermarket trey to find local so you dont have this problem. GL
i probably have the panel from the same company, and it fit pretty good though I had to use a file to adjust brackets to allow it all to fit right. sits level though it has some slight waviness to it. it definitely keeps the rain and wind out. My experience wuld hae me recommending it.
You may want to see if the silicone you used has a contact or tech support number for the company that makes it and call and ask if they can recommend a solvent for it that will not damage the rubber or the resin in the panel.

Yea the new panel from Honda will arrive shortly. I've been researching on solvents to dissolve the glue in the gasket and I'm gonna try a couple of them. Im just scared to put any holes into the rubber since there arent many si's in junk yards around me. Then im really screwed.
My CF panel was the worst piece ive ever seen. I use and file and everything and its never gonna fit right. I'll never order one again.

please take some photos of the CF panel, i want to see the quality (i have experience with carbon fibre and might be able to use one regardless). when testing solvents, do it on a test spot (run a bead of silicone on a cardboard a few times and let it cure) then dab a SMALL amount of solvent on rubber and see how it behaves (it will soften if it is dissolvable by a particular solvent)
good luck
