Default side mirror installation tips?

So, someone smacked the hell out of the left side mirror on my '98 GS-R. Living the in the Boston area, I'm suprised that the entire side of the car wasn't dented to hell. Anyway, I got off easy -- scratches on the mirror housing and the mirror itself is cracked.

Here's the question. I put the new mirror (just the glass & holder) in and got the pivot and lower joint pin installed, but the joint pin to the left is *killing* me . Any suggestions on tools? I just can't get the damn plastic ball to go into that clip/hole on the back of the mirror.

Thanks!

they sell the side mirror in parts? when my car was PARKED and some guy drove too close and smacked off my side mirror w/ his side mirror the local dealer said they don't sell it in parts....

all I needed was the outer housing and the plastic part of the housing that connects to the door... the motor and mirror were still good..and the electrical wires and connectors were still good (it was hanging by it)... they wouldn't sell me just the housing and I had to spend $200 to buy the whole housing, motor, mirror, etc..
