only time i ran open exhaust on the streets was when 1. my exhaust wouldnt reach and 2. i had no downpipe to reach my exhaust. other than that theres no point to runing open exhaust on the street.

1.) yes it will give you better 1/4 times...how much is up to the driver.
2.) don't run open-exhaust on the street. it's bad for the environment and annoying as all hell. oh yeah, it's illegal too.

 

open exhaust usually results in less torque and horsepower, ESPECIALLY in the low end. Only time open header(s) really helps is if you're running a turbo or turbos, or if you're running an all-out race engine or a ton of N/A horsepower on a street engine.

 

You don't lose torque, it just changes the the torque curve on your engine to a higher RPM, which is why its not smart on low HP Honda's because the low end is lacking in the first place. You would have hella top end though....

that's not true at all. there are large horsepower gains to be had on any vehicle from running open-header, mostly at the top end where the engine is able to push more exhaust more easily. yes, at the low end, you lose torque because you have utterly no backpressure (a problem already on most hondas), but it will probably make up for it when you're winding out gears up to 8400 rpms.

 

I have found that my car runs like complete crap with open-header. I have a DC Sports 4-1 header, and other than being loud as hell and rattling every bone in my body, the O2 sensor, which on that header is mounted 1" from the end of it sometimes sees outside air between pulses and it really dosen't run well at all. I expect that a header with the O2 sensor mounted closer to the engine would perform better.

Let it also be noted that this sounds like complete crap.



Alternatively, I got a test pipe from testpipe.com for about $25.00 i believe. I installed that in place of my catalytic convertor, with the DC Sports 4-1 stainless header, AC revolution muffler, and it is also extremely loud. All deep sound was removed. There was nothing but high pitched screaming at all rpm's. I couldn't quiet it down, I tried installing the silencer in my muffler and that didn't help enough. I took her out on the highway and after 6 miles I had a splitting headache and took that sucker off. However, I believe there was a noticable gain in power at all RPM's. I kept the pipe for track and dyno use.

Also, it smelled like crap! Like an old pickup truck. I love my catalytic convertor It silences just right and keeps my car smelling mountian fresh

I ran open header in my 00 si, and it felt alot faster, but you could never get away with that on the street, way to loud. but at the track you will see lower times, I also purchased that test pipe, from http://www.testpipes.com and it is also alittle quicker, but open header is much better for power gains.

 

I ran around my neighborhood for a little while open header after removing my turbo.

GOD DANG was my car fawking slow. Depressingly slow actually.

I only recommend open header at the track. It is soooo loud(when VTEC engages really watch out), and a 4 banger with no engine sounds like ****.

I also recommend trying it.

 

what about running with header and cat but nothing else after that.?

 

still loud as ****, still illegal, the cat will rob you of power with no benefit, what else do you want us to tell you? just try it for God's sake. it takes five minutes to drop the Goddamned exhaust.
