1999 Accord stronger vibration when idling, after service
Hi There,
I have just serviced my '99 accord.
Changed spark plugs, oil filter, air filter, changed 5L of oil (Mobil formulas 2 10W40), front brake pads and everything else is checked.
I can feel that the car runs smoother. However, i can feel the car's vibration is stronger than before.
Is this normal? or should i get it checked again?
Thanks

why 10w40 where do you live, have you checked your motor mounts/tranny mount?
also how much of a vibration, all engines vibrate just matter of how much. bad head gasket/ piston rings, bad or wrong gapping of spark plug sometimes causes rough idle due to uneqaul compression, bad spark. From the list of things you have done, I would check the plugs, ignition coil, motor mounts. hope it helps

vibrations are evenly continuous, they are not very strong but noticeable.
does oil grade matter alot?
So, do you reckon that they might have installed faulty spark or improper installation?
5 litres seems like to much oil. Check the dipstick level. Is it vibrating while driving or idling? 4.3l is capacity. I guess they charged for 5.

So the cars running fine, does the vibrations go away when you accelerate, what about when its shifting, does the engine seems to jerk when it shifting during normal accelleration? If its driving fine, I wouldnt worry about it. If its vibrating to the point where everythings rattling then have a tech check it out, seems like your knowledge and experience is low to actually diagnose a problem.
only when idling. it looks fine with dipstick

This one has automatic transmission though, I havent drive far since being serviced.
Yes i am very new in this, my knowledge is very low as i have never experienced this before. I will check with the mechanic again next week.
everything vibrated up to the front door, everything else behind it is fine.
I hope there are no major issues
The only thing that doesn't fit is the oil, change to the correct grade.
What is the idle speed when this happens, and does it happen hot or cold?
Excessive compliance in the engine mounts will cause vibration, but this seems unlikely in your situation.

10w40 is acceptable according to the manual book, however previously the oil was 15w40.
I will give it a go again tomorrow morning, thanks
Spark plug was NGK, it seems very tight
10w40 is only if it doesnt get cold where your at. You need to take your spark plugs out and check for proper gapping (meaning check the spacing between the tip.) have a tech inspect your plugs and ignition coil.
I also realized that the RPM when idling is now around 800ish (hot), whereas it was around 1100 (hot) before it was serviced.
It should be around 800 rpms. Sometimes our minds play tricks on us..if it's running completely fine it could just be that you didn't notice the same vibration before....not saying you're wrong, just throwing that out there
true, maybe before being serviced the idle rpm was too high which leads to less vibration and the mechanic might have adjusted it. It just felt different thats all, I'll get it checked again anyway.
If it's not misfiring then it's probably just that the idle was lowered. BTW 10w40 is generally a good weight for an engine that isn't brand new for NZ. I used 15w40 once on a CRX and the engine found it harder to start cold in winter (Christchurch)
for me, if temperatures gets below in the negative area, I wont go heavier than 5w30.
The reason it was hard for you to start is because when it got cold your oil bacame a milkshake consistency, and when you crank your engine, your oil pump tries to suck that thick millshake (oil) but its having a hard time because its too thick, thats when engine wear is the most.
