Default 1991 ef hatch, having issues, seems to be a fuel pump.

91 hatch, 1.5, all stock, no aftermarket parts. it will sometimes have a hard time starting like the timing is off, but i checked the timing. it will start and run, but when u go down the road, if u give it to much gas at once, it just shakes and wants to bog down, u can lean into the gas slowly and it will run fine. seems like when it demands fuel, or has a demand quickly, the pressure drops and cant keep up.

need some help here

thanks

hook-up a fuel pressure gauge and take some readings. should be at least 38psi at idle up to 41/42psi tops when engine's revved to like 3-4krpms with the car in stand still. these values are when the vac hose is off the regulator.

could be one of the ff:

pump, fuel pressure regulator, clogged fuel filter and or feed line/s.

it's a PITA to replace the pump directly w/out further diagnosis.

you can get creative and make your own adapter and mount it by replacing the stock banjo bolt w/c is on top of the oem fuel filter.

or take it to a shop near you and have them use their fuel pressure tools. something like this below. it comes with assorted fittings and adapters so it can be used with almost any type of fuel system.

it's what i used as a hobbyist btw.

@ the fuel filter "service" bolt (top of stock fuel filter, fuel line's banjo has a smaller bolt in top of it that you normally use to relieve fuel pressure before servicing fuel system-takes an adapter that can be purchased, rent - a - tool @ autozone,etc...), or if good w/ hands you can drill out a spare "service" bolt + tap it for 1/8" NPT fitting which is a common fitting thread + size.

My bet is clogged pickup "sock" filter in fuel tank. See my crx thread for an example/pix of what I'm referring to... (I also replaced tank w/ aftermarket 67.30 shipped one + ran SS fuel lines whilst @ it) G'luck!

Also do an ignition system tune up - plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing.

Any CEL codes?
