Renewing My Civic
I recently bought a 92 civic dx and want to start upgrading it but am not exactly sure where i should start. Where is a good starting point under $500 until i work my way up to the bigger stuff.
Forget all go-fast parts. Short of turbocharging or swapping it just forget that route with your budget. Invest in the suspension. Some lowering spring; H&R or Eibachs. Do all maintenance, oil change, tuneup if you haven't done any of that.
buy tow hooks.
nah don't buy tow hooks...
buy a nice set of TIRES (and rims if you need them). I know it's an unsexy mod but soo valuable. Then focus on the rest of the suspension.
Definitely do not waste money on an exhaust and intake.

Tires, [with rims if you do not have any] then brakes, then suspension in that order.
No point in better brakes and suspension, if you do not have tires that can handle them.
No point in a performance suspension, if you can't stop the car.
No point in doing any engine performance upgrades, if you do not have the above three.
Also as mentioned, before anything, a tune-up, plugs wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter and timing belt, maybe a water pump, depending on how old it is, [how many miles on the engine].

does it have rust and/or body damage? if i could start over on my car, id have gotten the body work and paint out of the way. if only i could go back in time!
if the body is decent, no rust etc, id focus on maintenance stuff, then tires, brakes, suspension.

Bringing the engine up to snuff is a good first step. Gives you a peace of mind that everything is up to date and running strong. And knowing it wont leave you stranded on the side of the road. With that done, you can ride out for as long as it takes while you save up money for all your other mods. Best of luck
Been doing some research and I decided to buy the following mods over the next month and a half since i am going to be at sea anyway and wont be able to spend on anything else, im getting KYB GR-2 suspension, Duralast rotors and brake pads, Skunk 2 exhaust, Viper 350 Responder alamr system, Skunk 2 Intake manifold, AEM short ram intake, new radiator, speedometer cluster to add RPM, and doing a power window/locks conversion. Should all be around $2k going to start ordering by the end of the week, any suggestions of what i may be missings or need to change would be appreciated.
A worth while up grade to look into is 2007 base Mini Cooper rotors with 2001 ITR calipers and your choice of pads. They will bolt right up with no issues and fit any 15in OEM Honda wheel. Cheap way to give your car MUCH better braking abilities and damn near fade proof (depending on pads of course) I got everything off RockAuto for under $300. Best upgrade I've ever done.

And as for the plugs and filters, if this isn't going to be a race car then why bother wasting the money. Especially when regular NGK plugs and wires for your car will work perfectly fine. A better filter is also a good idea, but not really sure what a "race filter" is. K&N, and the filters that come with a Injen or AEM intake are much better than stock and are cost effective.

What about the body? Patch panels can be had for about $40 per side. Then the body work plus paint will be about $600-800. Do it now before it gets worse and all your efforts are wasted. RUST NEVER SLEEPS!
