DC burning oil by the gallons!
Hey guys so I need some serious help. My gsr is burning oil like a mothafucka. I changed my oil 1000 miles ago and last night as i was cleaning my car i thought id check my oil. pull out the dipstick and there is no literally no oil on the stick. re dipped it about 5 times because I couldnt believe it lol. Anyways, so i go to honda today and the dumbass service guy just told me i need to look for a new motor. wtf? i asked him if a leakdown test would show me anything and he said there is no point in doing it. the parts guy asked me what he said and he was like "uhhh.. no. its probably your rings or valves. it can be fixed." it seems like the dealership just didnt want to deal with it. so does anyone know what I should do? i do not want to keep buying oil every couple of days. also, how much would this cost? let me know guys, thanks!
96 GSR only has 127,xxx original miles and the oil light is NOT on
no puddles of oil anywhere I park at all. No smell, no smoke either. No blue smoke out of the exhaust that others have said in other threads either
just bought a Mobil 1 oil filter and Castrol GTX High Mileage 5w-30 Part synthetic gonna do an oil change tomorrow in the morning
So is there smoke coming out of the exhaust?
If so, what color is it and when does it smoke, when accelerating, when decelerating, when engine is cold, when engine has warmed up.
If your car is burning "oil by the gallons" it would be a smoke show out of the exhaust.
Are you sure the correct amount of oil was put in at the last oil change?
Any oil stains under the car where you park it, maybe a leak?
Stick your head under the car, [engine] is there a lot of oil under the engine?
A compression and leak-down test will tell you a lot of things and should be done.
Also, pull the spark plugs and inspect the ends, if your burning oil by the gallons, your spark plugs will look something like this...

Dealerships don't like older cars unless it has a lifetime of service history there. They make little to no money doing diagnostics. They also know you are likely to do the work yourself and cut them out of the real money lol. I would recommend finding a Honda/Acura specialist shop in your area.

Dealerships always make money, they do not do diagnostics for free, they are more then happy to tell you they can't find or fix the problem at the same time they hand you a diagnostics bill for $350, It's dealerships that keep me working, [Dave Ward Auto Electric], every day we get customers who have just come from a dealership that "can't" fix their cars, but charged them 2-3 hours @ $120hr for diagnostics, and they don't even blink when they rip you off like that, oh ya, they definatly make money on older cars.
I do agree the OP should find an independent shop. 94
If no smoke and the correct amount of oil has been put just for craps and giggles make sure the oil isn't mixing in with the coolant. If it is the you'll be able to see the oil in the coolant but if the oil is mixing with the coolant the coolant should be mixing with the oil and it would look like chocolate milk. Don't really see this as the problem but just something simple and easy to check if you don't have any other signs of leaks or smoking from the tail pipe. This is also possible if your car has a oil cooler that runs through the radiator. Not sure if your car has one or not but something to consider if it does.
