Default b16 CRX,,, VTEC not working,, Vehichle speed sensor is where?

--just bought a B16'ed CRX!!!! my third CRX. heh heh i like those things

like i said, VTEC isnt working and im getting the vehicle speed sensor code. which would inhibit VTEC activation. anyhow where is that damn sensor? please dont say in the trans. if anyone knows where it is located or how to reset it please let me know ASAP. ALSO important to know,,, the car does not have a speedometer cable right now, would that throw a VSS code? im not sure becuase its cable driven and not plug in like 92-ups . thanks to everyone that helps out

i don't know if this will help but on my d16 Si tranny the speedo cable, which would be attached to the vss i assume, was a little to the right of the rear tranny mount, sorry if this isn't any help, good luck

The VSS is inside the ECU
The Speedo has to be attached to the back of the gauge cluster to throw a speed back to the computer. So there isn't really a "Sensor" its just the Gauges need to be plugged in so the ECU sees an acceptable speed to throw the motor into VTEC

Unless you chip the VSS INSIDE the Ecu to disable the VSS. Then you can pop VTEC at a stopsign.

I didn't bother reading what these other people said...but...your VSS isn't working becuase you don't have the speed cable hooked up. I don't know bout the accual sensor...but I do know that the cable runs to your trans which is where it gets its reading, when you get the cable in it should run. If it doesn't...I poured oil in mine(in the trans...where the cable goes in) reset the ecu and its worked ever sence

The VSS is on the back of the gauge cluster. It sends the signal to the ECU. It is driven by the speedo cable which comes off the sender which is in the tranny. The cable NEEDS to be installed. All of the above applys if USDM cluster is in the car.

If you buy a cable, go with the 91 integra one.

Part Number 78410-SKY-A01 (25.14 out the door)

Its about an inch longer and makes a great fit. Mine got all jimmied up when I tried to stretch the stock cable into the J1 tranny, it can be done but not in my case. Hopefully you have the gear mechanism that goes into the tranny. This will not be included. Source that from CRX, or 90-91 integra also.

VTEC works now! thank you everyone for helping me out. i ran to the boneyard and bought a cable, installed it. once it warmed it, **** was all good after that. i had like 4 other check engine codes,,, 22 6 1 and 16(prior to installing the cable and reconnecting a ground). i found a ground that wasnt connected behind the guage cluster, i noticed it when i was puttin in the speedo cable. i hooked all the **** up and only ran it for like 5 mins, but no codes came up,, hopefully it will stay that way. thanks again.

so much for me to learn, or were you refering to yourself? ive done many swaps, mainly all OBDI or OBDII B series swaps and the occaisonal ZC swap into a CRX or EF HB. i just bought this CRX of a dood for 800$.(****** has b16 w/ LSD Dc intake & header, tanabe RM catback and a few other little odds N ends with a good body too!) he said he re-wired the engine harness, which gave me nightmares. after he did his rigjob he took it to a shop by my area whereupon they charged him 1100$ to do whatever they did to fix his rigjob. The best part is, VTEC still wasnt working after it came out of the shop. that didnt make me any more stable. he was trying to make up some BS about how the JDM b16 ECU doesnt corespond with the US tach and therfor is 1000 RPMs off.(redlineing at 7200 becuase of running on safety mode without the VSS picking up anything). i was like,,"dood VTEC is not working" after he tried to make make some **** up, i knew he new very little.i thought i was in for a big *** wireing problem., but it turned out to be something hella simple. so,,, if you were refering to me, that i have alot to learn,,, i would be very reluctant to call you a ****** ******.. if you were refereing to yourself, im sorry, and if you need help with swaps, you can ask me, im very knowledgable.....
