After a manual trans swap, shifter does not work properly
Okay, so the transmission in my 1997 Civic LX (D15Y7) basically exploded, and I decided to swap in a working trans. I picked up a used Y4B, and installed it. Before the stock S40 went out there was a new clutch and flywheel installed, so I left those. I put everything back together, and now the car sounds like it is shifting into gear, but I really have to feather the clutch. Like it's only going into third gear when I shift it into "first" "third" or "fifth" and it seems like it's just going into fourth gear when I try "second" "fourth" or "reverse." The shifting was really really sloppy before this Y4B was installed. Like I could put it in gear and still move the shifter all over the place. It's still really sloppy, and I'm wondering if it might just be the bushings. I have no idea what else it could be, and I am hoping someone here can help me, as I've been without a car for several weeks. This shifting problem is the only thing left to fix. Thank you.
Check and replace the shift bushings as needed (take the shifter completely apart). Check the joint on the shift linkage, if it has play, replace the linkage or have it converted to a no-slop linkage.
Other than that it would be an internal issue for the slop (if internal, the shifter will move all over even when in gear).
