I recently baught a 91 honda accord and the speedometer doesn't work and the odometer barley works. What could be wrong with it and how do I fix it?

I had the same problem with my 1990 Accord DX. It also ran like crap (idling below 1,000 RPMs and would even stall occasionally).

I went to my local junkyard, bought a Vehicle Speed Sensor (they're about $115 at the parts store, but I only paid $15 at the yard).

When I replaced it, I was pleased to see the odometer & speedometer working, but then quickly noticed the drastic improvement in engine performance - bonus!

Give that a shot, It'll probably work - just be VERY careful not to lose the tiny little spindle that's resting within the sensor, it can fall out very easily.

I checked about that speed sensor. When I try to look up the sensor for a 91 accord dx, it adks me for which engine, and it goes on to list of different engine models which I have no clue which engine type I have. All I know is that its SHOC. So I wanna make sure I buy the right one

 

Would that also make the odometor work too?
