Official EF Antique Status Thread
So as of January 1st the 88 EFs are eligable for antique status in most states. I went down yesterday and picked up a set of antique plates. For myself in Texas this means $10 a year for registration, no more state inspections, no window stickers, and no front plate required:
got this last year for my ef
$25 .... no more paying tabs. lol

damn. back in my country our rides must be at least 35 years old to be eligible. and STILL needs to have the smog test done every 2 years.. and are only allowed on the roads 48 days throughout the entire year!
this is really interesting. i have a 1990 CRX Si and live in Michigan so i thought i'd see if i can get my historic plates and what not

turns out i can't, id have to wait a few more years and not have it as my DD.
very interesting tho!

In South Carolina, an antique vehicle is defined as any motor vehicle that was manufactured at least twenty-five years ago and is used as a collector's item.

just curious from anyone with these plates. is the law very strictly enforced that you cant drive a car with antique plates all the time?
not enforceable
you have to have 1 regular car registered in your name & insured which helps to deter people from trying to get collectors plates to use as their sole primary means of transportation.
I know some guys drive their collector plate cars a 1-2 times a month, some drive it 3-4 days during summer months in MN. But cop can say/prove your abusing the rule since there are no set rules to monitor car owners usage (i.e. milages per year, days driven per year, ect)

However my CRX is a race car and not my daily driver. But I do drive it occasionally to keep the battery from running down (which I would consider maintenance).

well this is great news that you have met people who dd with those plates. my uncle has an old truck and he said insurance is alot cheaper but he hardly drives it. i mean im not going to dd a race car or anything ha but i was just being cheep and thinking i could save a few dollars.
also just curious since you said yours is a race car, did they check yours when you applied for the plates. the dmv for pa defines it as this
Antique Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year, which has been maintained in or restored to a condition, which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications.

also in case anyone is wondering in Texas 25 years old automatically qualifies you as safety inspection only. No need to register it as a classic to get by emissions. I just got my 88 wagovan inspected on the 2nd. safety only and has regular registration status
I'm so glad I took the time to find a 88
great info on registering as a antique tho!

Looks like I'll be getting them for my da when it's finished this spring. It does say I need to send in pictures of my engine bay and interior/exterior, you think they will fuss about my wire tuck and turbo? haha
