Default lower ball joint removal question

i have a good grasp on how to change my lower ball joint i desperately need to change but my question is, is it really necessary to remove the rotor? i would think the knuckle would still come off with the rotor still attached to it..so do i need to remove the rotor?

I just did this myself last week. I removed the rotor just so I didn't damage it. Taking the old ball joint was easy, just beat the crap out of it with a hammer. Putting the new ball joint in I rented a ball joint press from my local autozone, they went in nice and smooth. If you have any questions shoot me a pm, i'll answer any questions you have.

i took the rotor out on mine as well as i didnt want it to get damaged. I ended up removing the entire knuckle and take it to a place to install a new ball joint for me.

Why not? You are not reusing the old ball joint. It only took about 4/5 good hits and it came right out. Installation took about 1 min with the tool from the parts store. It was super easy.

You have some bad information... Even at honda we just hit them with a 5lbs sludge hammer.. If they are really stuck we then press them out but when you getting paind for speed every secound counts.

I take the rotor off and use a impact socket thats just large enuff to fit over the threaded part. It should sit on the base where the ball is actually located at. The socket keeps the threaded part from moving around and also a better target.

Do they still do the free rental? last I heard was $125 deposit when returning you get the $125 back becoming free

what impact gun did you use, electric plug in, battery power, or air compressed the one

You and your goons hit them with a sledge in a production atmosphere for flagged hours not for speed, when the manual clearly calls out for ball joint removal tool for this task.
