Default EM2 Transmission Options

I have a manual '01 EX Civic that I've been contemplating swapping to longer gear ratios and just wanted to verify what transmissions will swap into it.

Obviously I need a hydraulic d-series tranny, but I haven't found anything to indicate whether eg/ek transmissions would be a direct swap or not. Or even whether there's an issue going to a LX or HX transmission; assuming there's no issue, but I'd prefer to verify before I buy something and get the car pulled apart.

If it's already been covered I apologize, I've searched pretty extensively and the only stuff I'm coming up with is discussion on auto to manual conversion, a link would be greatly appreciated.

It needs to be an '01 - '05 Civic transmission. Nothing else will fit. Honestly I would leave the EX transmission in there, an EX engine with a DX/LX/HX transmission is painfully long.

Yeah only 01-05 will work. And the EX has the best gear ratio of them all lol.Watch out for the input bearing going though, just about to replace mine now, its really common.

Thanks for the replies and confirming that only 01-05 will fit.

I do a lot of highway miles and cruising at 4000rpms seems unnessary and kills gas mileage, and it's just a daily so I'm not concerned about racing it or anything. I guess the best bet would be finding someone local that wants to swap. I'm sure the EX tranny is much more desireable for speed/performance.

you probably won't see any difference in gas mileage with a longer geared transmission.
