What type of metal is a 1991 integra 5 speed transmission case?
Basically I have a 1994 civic with an B18a1 ls swap and a 5speed cable ls tranny. When i went to take off in first gear today my e-brake cable was froze and my car would not move.
So i tried to take off a bit harder to see if it would break free, when i did this my cheap swap mounts allowed my engine to move enough to break the shift linkage stabilizer arm off of the trans, when this happened it took about a 1 inch size piece of my trans off.
I need to know if the trans case is aluminum or pot metal?
if it is aluminum would i be able to tig weld it or should i just find a new trans?
sorry this is so long.
from what i have found it is aluminum but i cant find much

this is pretty easy to figure out, if a magnet sticks, its steel, if it doesnt, its aluminum. although we all know its aluminum, just a trick for future reference
ok thanks guys i am going to tig it tommarrow. any advice on preheating and such? i dont want to mess up my tranny.
Im replacing my mounts and obviously trans fluid.
i have an extra cylinder of argon and was wondering if i should try and fill the trans with argon to improve weld. this may be stupid and impractical tho
