I swapped a cable gsr ys1 trans into an ef. It was fine for a couple weeks until it started getting hard to put into first and second gear. I changed the fluid and tightened the clutch cable with no improvement. I swapped it out for an Ls ys1 for now. It shift fine. I opened the gsr trans thinking I would find a broken 1-2 fork but the trans appeared to be fine. No obvious loose or broken parts. I'm wondering if the internal linkages could be worn or maybe someone has seen this issue before.

Did you check the 1-2 sleeve, center hub, and synchros?

Yeah, they appear be in great shape. When its open it shift easily, when its together on the bench it is a bit notchy but I don't expect butter without movement. In the car it refused to go into first or second. I slammed it to the point I thought I might break the shift **** off. Tomorrow I'm gonna swap some parts out and do the ls 5th so I'll keep this updated. I read about a couple other problems like mine but no slutions.

I determined that the internal linkage was worn on the gsr trans. I put the gsr gearsets and rails in the ls case with ls internal gear selector linkage and ls 5th gear. Gsr diff and final drive. Only had about 5 hours of downtime.
