92 Accord - Checklight comes on - 9 short blinks
Seasons Greetings everyone.
Is my old '92 Accord EX also wanting a Xmas gift ?
Last night check light came on while driving home. Went to check it today, it blinks 9 times, short blinks.
What does this stand for ?
All help appreciated.
Thanks.

9 short blinks is error code 9. That is the code for an issue with the cylinder position sensor (CYP), it is located in the distributor housing.
Check the wiring and make sure the connectors are all clean and tight.

Thank you for your help GhostAccord.
My distributor has less than 3 years and was put in brand new by myself as well as all the sparkle cables.
Other than that ( 9 blink code ), sometimes it just won't start no matter how many times you try and try and try. Then, after a while, if I wait, it starts on the first time you try.
I just shake my head and think the damn car's even crazier than myself ...
Can the two issues be related ?
Thanks for your help.

Was this distributor a re-manufactured (Reman) unit from a generic parts store or was it a Genuine Honda OEM replacement part? Reman distributors have been known to use sub par electronic components and also have been known to fail prematurely, sometimes even right out of the box.
An issue with the CYP sensor (variable reluctance type sensor) OBD DTC 9, can cause a no start issue. It could be a loose, corroded or dirty contact/wire or it could be a dirty or worn out VR sensor inside the distributor.
You should test the wiring and the sensor for the CYP circuit. Would you happen to have a multimeter and a shop manual for your car?

Hello again.
I really couldn't say. As far as I remember I went on eBay and just bought a distributor, no idea about it's source but I think it's all brand new in the box and not a re-manufactured one. Will have a look into that, no doubt.
Yes, I do have the shop manual for my car as well as a multimeter ( and I know how to use it ). Where should I look at for the test ?
Thanks for your help.
Still got the old one ( which had no trouble whatsoever ) and the box this one came on. I think I'll swap the distributor back for the old one for a while to see what goes on.

If you weren't having any problems with the old distributor. I would swap it back in. I would also look over the components and use the cap and rotor that are in the best shape between the two.
If you have the shop manual for the CB Accord there should be a section under PGMFI that covers the code 9. It will have a complete step by step diagnostics to follow for a CYP issue.
