Question? Can a S800 crankshaft be rebuilt?

I restored a S800 Coupe 32 years ago, the body was in good shape but
the engine was sold out of the car. I found a basket case engine that appears
to have been 2 to 3 different engines. The crankshaft was one solid mass
of rust, wrist pins rusted in place, rods would not move. Worked for weeks
soaking and spraying rust remover. All the rods and bearings freed up,
clearances were good. The engine was assembled, runs good, no knocking
noise except when the carbs are out of sync. Would like to rebuild engine
again. Will be easier now with the internet to get parts, except for the crank.
Any advice on where to start.

I am not aware of any shops in the USA that can work on the S800 crank. There was a shop that could make repairs in Japan at one time (and may still be there?). You might have luck locating a good used crankshaft out of the UK or Germany. Sorry I have no direct leads to give you.

The answer is of course, 'Yes, depending how bad it is...' While direct S800 crank experience might not be available in your area, similar Porsche or other performance / race shop with solid rod experience would be able to do it I am sure. The issue however will be their appetite to understand and do it properly. The shop manual describes in detail the process and clearances, so assuming they've got access to a copy, they may be willing to take the work? Good luck! Neko.

in germany there is a suppurb company that can make your crank as new, but be ware fo the fact that this is not cheap.
Please take care of companies who don't have any experience with these cranks.

These cranks are pressed together just like many bike engines that have roller bearings. There are places that can disassemble and reassemble them but it's going to be much better and cheaper to get a good used part.
