Default Clutch Fork spring/clip question

I can't seem to remember off the top of my head, does that spring/clip go around/behind the pivot ball holding the fork to it, or does it sit on top of pivot ball and act like a spring? Sorry for the noob question, I've looked and searched and found diagrams but it doesn't show what I'm looking for.

It goes on the concave side. Put the foot in the slipper and squeeze the ears while pushing it in. When you got it, you'll know it.
