How do i tell which h22a motor i have?
Hello, new here just wondering i just bought a 93 honda prelude (according to the vin). I dont know much about them starting with something new but i bought the car and did a little research. It looks like this car has been swapped to a vtec it has a bb2 chassis which i think is an si (2.3l non vtec) prelude? but has an h22a vtec motor there is no 1 after the h22a. According to the research i have been doing this is a jdm motor correct? If so how can i tell which motor they bought for the car? It looks like there is a 190hp h22a jdm motor out of an accord and a 200hp jdm motor out of a prelude is there any way to tell which one they could have bought and put in? Will the number right below the h22a on the block tell me what motor this is? Just kinda curious on how much hp this motor really has. Please let me know if i have something wrong above. If you guys could help me out and give me some info it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
i think it depends on the year of the motor?
idk. but to find out the year look on the head.
in betwen the headers or a little bit above itll have a stamp.
my motor came out of a 2000 accord but was made in 1997. so the stamp reads
9/7 and is in a circle.
but idk anything about h22a accord or prelude. just giving u an idea.

So with the head saying 9/2 and the block being H22a and the serial number 1016584 if i researched right its the motor out of a 92 prelude and its got the 200hp jdm h22a motor correct? Since they didnt make a jdm h22a vtec in an accord in 92. Am i correct? Thanks for the help

hey guys new to this forum thing. i have a h22a with a ein 1046787 and i just can not for the life of me tell what kind of h22 i have. i was told its a type s but I'm not sure. id just like to know how for knowledges sake. so help would be greatly appreciated!! thanks!
Oh.. I was just kidding. Maybe I should have spelled vtec as VTECH so it'd be more obvious. Then again, maybe not. Lol.
I do have a random question that sorta falls into this category though. My jdm h22a is a 93, according to the head casting which means the engine was obd1 originally. So why does the block come with the crank sensor down by the timing sprocket? I was under the assumption obd1 jdm h22s didn't even have the crank sensor mounting holes predrilled down there. Anyone know? Or was I misinformed?
I mean, it was good for me as I used the crank sensor anyways cuz my lude is a '96 model so when I did the jdm h22a swap I converted&wired the engine to obd2 and used a conversion harness and p28. But I was surprised initially that the crank sensor was even there to begin with. I'd already bought one assuming I'd have to mount it somehow and wire it up.
