Default Wont shift out of park..

98 CRV .
changed brake light bulbs, brake switch, re-did cluster wiring chewed by rats, took apart dash to check if more wiring was chewed.

Still won't shift out of park, the only other existing problem is a snapped left axle. Would the snapped axle affect the car from shifting? If so, then I guess i'll change it. If not, I might just take the engine and scrap it, far too many problems.

axle has nothing to do with it. Probably an issue with the brake switch. try disconnecting the switch and using a jumper to complete the circuit.

I should have first asked, is the shifter not moving, or is the shifter moving but the transmission not shifting?

The shifter has normal play in Park, but won't move into gear unless I press down on the bypass piece to shift it out. It'll get into a gear then and then I hear a clunking/grinding on my drivers side (which is where I found out the axle was bad) and then the right side will sound like it's seizing when I put it back into park.

Did you repair the axle? Sounds like its spinning that side of the axle shaft, wether on the inside of the diff or on the outside. Remember, an open diff will always spin the side with the least resistance. If you only have one shaft in, and no shaft on the other side, the side with the least resistance will be the one with no shaft so it will spin, weather you're on the brakes or not. When you're trying to switch from in gear to park, thats the same as throwing it in park while you're driving down the road, not very good.

No power to neutral switch. Check fuse and loose and open circuits

Not yet, I have it inside my house ready to throw on but I'm waiting to borrow an impact gun.
Oh that's right, I see what you mean, it worries me even more, once I get the axle repaired and brake problem running, i'll need to get rid of this CRV so I can make space for an Impreza coupe project.

did you check the shift cable to see if that's chewed or seized? I just finished my brother's 98 auto CRV and his shift cable which connects to the bottom of the auto tranny was kinked, making it literally impossible to shift at all.

Put the axle one, redid the cluster wiring once again, and it still won't shift.
Brake lights aren't working again, fuse is good. Wiring doesn't appear to be grounding or eaten up by rats. I'm going crazy! Getting ready to sell this!

i havent reread this, but if the brake lights arent working and you can shift out of park, its most likely the brake petal switch. try bypassing it with a paper clip

I've been getting way too lazy with this. Okay, gonna jump the cables, check all the fuses, refill the tranny with ATF since there was none when I swapped the axle. But at the same time, i'll need some parts, if anybody's got a parts / donor CRV please LMK! The little island I live on has only one good junkyard and they only had 2 CRV's in and they're basically a stripped chassis missing what I need. Really hoping to get this CRV up as a backup vehicle.
