For the people with trunk lights on their 96-00 Civic Hatch, I need help.
I am trying to install the trunk light on my hatch and was following the threads in H-T regarding this install, but I am a little confused. The write up says to tap into the red/white and the blue and black wires. My confusion is that I have two wires that are blue with black. I have a thick one and a regular one. Which one is the correct one?
I know that the white/red wire is the constant 12v source, I just need to know which blue/black wire is the right one for the hatch sensor. I don't have a multi-meter. I know there are plenty of people that have done this mod in their cars and know which wire I am talking about.

Run the black/blue wire with your fingers. If it's the ground wire, its terminal will be extremely easy to find.
It sounds like you might be tracing the wrong wire.
There is a simple solution for you, though. Just run a new wire for ground. You can solder it onto an O connector, and put said connector behind any bolt in your trunk. Just sand off the paint around and under the bolt head until you can see bare paint. When you tighten the bolt again, spray a light coat of paint over it.

The BLU/BLK wire doesn't go to ground, it goes to the hatch-open bulb in the cluster (which is why it isn't just BLK).
OP, the different thicknesses are an indicator of the function of the wire. A thick wire suggests that whatever is using that wire draws a lot of amps / current. There's not much in the back of your car that will draw a whole lot of current save for the rear defroster. If you look at the wiring diagrams, what is the other thing at the back of the car that uses a BLU/BLK?
I am 95% certain that tapping the narrow gauge BLU/BLK will be correct but if you want to make 100% certain, check for the same gauge BLU/BLK at the connector on the cluster for the hatch-open indicator bulb.
