Trying to decide before building my motor should I boost? All motor? Add nos? What's most powerful? Which is better for motor? Wanting any and all opinions, but not swapping motors until this ones not good for more then sellin as scrap.

 

B2? if you plan on keeping the F22 i would swap over to a B1 head at least. I have a 97 accord with a F22B2 as well and im going to drop in an H22 Rather than mess with the F22

 

Is the b1 better? I thought b2 was supposed to be better

 

The only difference between the two is the head. B1 is VTEC B2 is not.. Both are 16 valve SOHC

 

Well what do you want? High torque, mid torque, low torque.... Hi rpm, mid rpm, low rpm. Cheap power, natural power.....

 

I want street legal while able to get good track times if I ever get free time, more or less using it as a learning project probably gonna spend a pretty penny but a little at a time since I'm usually broke after bills, but I'm gonna save up and get good quality parts that will be good now and later if I ended up putting a lot of horse power in it later. I think I wanna aim for 200hp then go up from there until I kill the motor, sell the car, or just stop building it and only work on my other project

 

What is your goal for this build and what is your budget? 200-400whp with a stock F22B2 and boost is doable. As long as your engine is in good health to begin with.

Compression and leak down tests would be a precursor to any build.

Do not swap the B2 head for the B1 head..... There are no gains to be had with the F22B1 SOHC VTEC head. If you want more flow go with an F22A1-6 head and have it ported.

 

ah yes. i didnt even think about the A1-6 head. it flows so much better than the B1 or B2 head.

 

I'm an all motor guy, but for that engine I think I'd choose to turbo it

 

No set budget just gonna do a little here and a little there, I was thinking maybe get ecu that will work stock and be able to modify later when everything's modified whichever way it goes, then get pistons and such next, and then begin to turbo, or nitro somewhere down the road. If I got A head which ones better 1-6 and would it really be better then upgrading the one I have?

 

F22A1, F22A4 and F22A6 all use the same PT3 casting. Therefore any one of them will work. If you are not planning on getting a cam or doing any sort of valve train upgrades the A6 would be the one to get. As it has a slightly better cam profile. Just remember that your stock F22B2 intake and exhaust manifolds will need to be replaced with F22A stuff as well.

There is no real upgrade to the B2 head..... Sure a cam and some valves but the port geometry is still poo poo. However, if you are going with boost the B2 will work good enough with a turbo cam and a good valve job. If you want to go with an NO2 or NA build. Then you would definitely benefit from a PT3 head swap.

 

Was kinda leaning towards turbo later on plus cam and such, but if A will make that big of difference I will probably start pricing around for one, do they bolt right up everything the same? Or will I have to modify anything?

 

The head itself bolts right up, you will need the F22A intake manifold, thermostat housing, cooling tube (the one that runs under the intake), and the exhaust manifold and down pipe. Seems like a lot but I'm sure you can find the complete top end for relatively cheap at a local JY. Aftermarket headers are all over the place for the 90-93 F22A engine.

 

So the a is a 90-93 accord?

 

Are you sure intake manis don't bolt the same? Bisi sells f22a/b mani wouldn't that mean they bolt the same?

 

yeah the 90-93 accord had had F22A. thats where you will find the intake mani's and all of the other parts you need for that particular head swap.

I could very easily point you in the direction of an archived thread here on H-T that shows all of the F22A*, F22B* and F23A* stock and ported cylinder head flow graphs.

There is a difference.........and for a couple hundred bucks it's a very noticeable difference.

 

That would be nice to see, I'm sure theat there is a difference, I'm not sure if the one I talked to knew for sure, but I wouldn't mind seeing chart just because it helps research
