Default Valve Cover Disaster?

While waiting for my distributor to come in the mail I decided to do a valve adjustment. The whole job went fine and got done fairly quickly. I put the valve cover back on with those little circle grommet things, then I put all the nuts and hand tightened them. Next I set my torque wrench to 10lbs like it says in the book, the nuts just spun and spun. Occasionly one would -click- and be done, the rest I just left tight because they kept on spinning. I got too the last one, it was the usual just sat there and spun, then all of a sudden crack, it broke the fricking top of the stud off. WTF! How could this of happened, it will probably leak oil now, are these studs replacable or part of the head?

You'll have to get them from an Acura.88 Integra D16a1 I believe. It shouldn't leak to bad. Oh and it sounds like it's time for a new Torque wrench. I usually just tighten them down w/ a 1/4" drive w/ an extension on it and it's fine.

Isn't the proper torque 7 lb/ft?

problem is probably with your torque wrench; after talking to some tool guys, it appears that
torque wrenches are most accurate in the middle of their ranges. So if you have a wrench
that goes to 100 ft.lbs, it isn't going to do you much good at a 9lb setting. I found this out the
hard way installing a water pump (bolts at 15 ft.lbs) when one of the bolts sheared; luckily it
came out easily. If you are set on torquing small bolts, then use a torque wrench with a smaller
range, like up to 25 lbs. Personally, I would snug them up till they felt right.

good luck

Hmm probably this torque wrench wasn't agreeing with me during the swap and got hit against the cement a few times. The damn thing would free spin like cheap ratchets after they get worn.
