Need to find a Vehicle Speed Sensor or an alternative
I'm getting desperate now, can't find a cable driven VSS for a manual tranny d15 to save my life...I bought one from a guy on here a while back, but it wasn't the right one. If anyone has the right one, or know someone who may have one..PLEASE let me know...
OR I need to find an alternative...like some electronic GPS thing I can wire into the car to use for a speedo/mileage tracker (I don't want to use my phone for that)
Thanks in advance guys

There is a gear drive in the transmission that spins a cable.
It does NOT have a speed sensor of any sort in the transmission.
The cable drives runs to the back of the gauge cluster. and attaches behind the speedometer.
Mounted to the back of the speedometer is a SPEED PULSER.
This is the equivalent to a newer model tranny mounted VSS.
So for all general purposes, you are WRONG.
No, the VSS does not exist in our generation of cars (88~91).

If you want to use a REAL VSS, then you simply need to toss the cable drive in the trash and replace it with a VSS from a newer model.
You will also need to replace the cluster to have a functioning speedo.
If you currently don't have a functioning speedometer, then it is more than likely that you have a check engine light throwing a code 17.
Your gas mileage is suffering dearly if this is the case.

Whoa, my bad...that I don't know the actual name..
All I know is that ever since I bought the car there was not a gear drive for the speedo cable, so it's throwing a code 17..make sense while the gas mileage sucks..
So, what is the technical name for this if it's not a VSS?

*It's still called that because your gauge doesn't care how fast your car is going, but ECU does.
calling it the gear drive for the vss works or gear drive for the speedo cable. BUT if you walk into a junkyard and ask for a VSS for that car you will NOT get it, you will either be told the car does not have one or it is in the gauge cluster. As originally stated hit up a junkyard, i have never differentiated between any of the 5 spdd gear drives, i am pretty sure the auto ones are the same but i have not laid hands on those in years.
Finally, after the third time at the junkyard...got it out...had to wiggle the mess out of it to get it out.
Plugged it in the empty hole on my car today and bam, first time i've seen the speedometer move! Now the odometer won't be stuck at 236,619mi lol
