Default 1995 Honda accord ex w/ Vtec 2.2 EGR Valve response

Hi Everyone. Heres my problem, check engine light, shooting a code 12, a buddy told me if i took a vaccum hose and plugged it into the egr valve it would tell me what part is bad, the vacuum system or the valve itself. well i did it and my car began idling ROUGH and almost dying. WHat does this mean? Should i buy a new valve altogether or try to clean mine? Thanks!!

Apply vacuum. If dies or drop more than 50 rpm then your valve is ok. If it holds vacuum and u can see the diaphragm go up but car has no change in idle then your egr passages needs to be clean out by disassembling and clearing out your ports.

I applied vaccuum and it idled rough but didnt die. Im guessing my valve is fine, is there a way to test the other parts of egr? Thanks

Could be one of the two solenoids on the fire wall or false lift readings on your egr but I doubt that.
Here is a link how to test. It's really easy. All you need is time,a vacuum gauge, pump and volt meter.
I would first try and apply 8 Hg vacuum and test the two wires for what voltage it's al first at idle and vacuum applied.

One useful thing I did in the field is book up a long vacuum line connected to a gauge while driving and leaving it on my windshield and inspecting how much vacuum the solenoid is pulling, if it works but no pulling a certain amount then the solenoid is suspected or vacuum solenoid connected to control solenoid.
Click here how to test and diagrams.
Good luck. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/need-help-egr-vacuum-control-solenoid-diagnosis-3045994/
