D4 flashing on a 92 wagon
Why is D4 flashing continous? Replaced several resisters solving a no shift problem. Is there a lock up gear in D4? It shifts into high gear but thought there was an overdrive. Thanks

The H4A has OD in 4th gear, lockup can feel like a gear sometimes.
What code(s) did you get with the blinking D4?

How dose the car shift? Dose it shift rough or slip and when your lets say on the freeway Arty around 2,500 to 3,000 rpm the torque converter lock solenoid should lock up and you will feel it kind of like a fifth gear and the rpm's will drop slightly.

It is possible it's the solenoid. Could also be the gasket for it could be plugged. The gasket for those also doubles as a screen filter. The solenoids cost around 300.00 bucks and the gasket is 40-80 i don't remember exactly but i do know that both items are dealer only items. Junk yard man. You will be lucky though if you find the solenoids. If you do find them buy the new gaskets. I think the lock up solenoid is the lower solenoid. Not positive though.
I did pull top solonoid and it looked ok, clean screen ; bottom looked harder to get to so I didnt pull it
I tested all 4 and bottom pair didnt click as sharp as top did. Dont know how else to check.
I will never go to a dealer for any issue.... if I can help it
Thanks again

The way you read the code from the CEL is fairly simple. It will repeat the code until you turn off the ignition or remove the jumper.
A code 3 would be _ _ _ .
A code 30 would be ___ ___ ___.
A code 33 would be ___ ___ ___ _ _ _
The codes would be presented in numerical order from lowest count to highest.
If you are not used to watching the CEL for codes then it can be tricky to pick up the pattern initially. Sometimes shifting issues are not due to an transmission issue, but an engine issue. Retrieve the code and that will aid in getting you one step closet to the problem.

The D4 flashing I dont believe is a code. It flashes as soon as key is on. Flash appears to be short but continues with no pauses "forever" I does not stop and will not up shift into OD.
You will have to jump the blue two wire connector and turn the ignition to ON to read the codes. If the D4 is just flashing at you then it is indicating there is an issue, that will not be the code flashing. Click on the H4A troubleshooting link in my sig, it has diagnostic information for you to troubleshoot your car.
