Wont rev past 3500
Okay guys so I have a honda accord 95 ex. 2.2 vtec. I recently replaced the engine. I replaced it with the same engine. Same year and all. I took it for a drive and it seems to be in limp mode. It wont rev past 3500 rpms. CEL on.
I pulled the cel code and i got code 4. Crank angle. I did an ohms test of the sensor and its within spec. Whats next?

Without a scope you can't really test a crank or cam sensor. Or any sort of inductance type sensor. While it might be within resistance spec the signal can still be weak. I'll have to check but off the top of my head that code sets when the crank and cam signals aren't in sync. IE timing is off or change it with the sensor off the old motor. You'll have to take the timing cover off anyway to change it
It might seem unrelated, but is your alternator making a strange howling noise?
Few years difference between my accord and yours but my alternator had a problem with the voltage regulator once and had exactly the symptoms you describe, similar code and all. Its been a few so I don't remember all the details, but I from what I read/understand a bad voltage regulator in the alt. could cause electrical interference with other sensors (crank/cam) cause this issue.
I remember testing mine by clearing the code (unhooking the battery), then un-plugging the plug from the alternator (Not the battery lead) and taking it for a short drive I had neither the code nor drivability problems when doing this. Immediately after plugging in the alternator and driving the car again I had a code set and the Reving problem. I replaced the alternator and never had an issue again.
Again, this might be unrelated but its worth mentioning as it takes minutes to try and costs nothing. GL

that makes sense. if the alternator or voltage regulator is going bad then the EMP's it sends out will interfere with any kind of sensors around it. also it will cause them to burn out. 95 doesnt have a crank position/angle sensor. 96 and up does. though it is possible (i may be wrong) that the LATE 95 model's had that sensor.
