car starts sometimes
my 1998 honda accord 2.3 liter starts sometimes with no problem...then sometimes, it appears to crank with ease but won't kick over. I've installed a new battery but this problem appears to have something to do with the car no acknowledging it's fully engaged in park. any thoughts as to what could be the cause?
Next time it doesn't start, turn the key to on position and instead of turning it over, put your foot on the gas pedal and hold it down for about five seconds, then try to start it. If it turns over your car may be getting too much gas. If that's the case, try testing the coolant temperature sensor for ohms. Should be around 2500 ohms when car is completely cold to 180 ohms when car is completely warmed up and hot.
If it weren't in park or neutral the car wouldnt turn over. I don't quite understand what you mean by it will crank but won't kick over, but next time it acts up check to see if you have spark. The Main relay has been known to cause intermittent crank but no starts.
