quick headgasket and ARP head stud question!!!!
I've got a B18C block with a B16 head....which head gasket and head studs should i use? I'll be using an OEM headgasket...someone told me to use the Tpye-R headgasket, as the Type-R engine is essentially a B18C block with a B16 head...is this correct?
and as far as the ARP head studs, should I get the ones for a Type-R also? i remember reading something about not all studs fitting exactly otherwise....thanx guys...

The b18c1 headstuds won't work with the type-r head. I don't remember seeing an application for the b18c5, but I know they make them for the b16a. Those will work.
I say go with the gasket that matches the head. Eventhough I have a feeling that all vtec gaskets are the same, but I am not 100% sure on that...as far as the studs then yeah vtec one will do.

all vtec studs (aftermarket) and headgaskets are all the same. If you're going OEM studs, B16 is a little shorter, if used with a b18, its too short and it will strip.

i double that thought i have a ls vtec with b18a block and b16 head and i used the b18c1 head studs. so i dont think the b16 ones will work, i think they will be to short

With a PR3 head (b16a, b17a, b18c5) you want to use the b16a headstuds. The b18c studs will work, but they are too long, and it's very likely the nut will run out of thread before it's all the way in. I've used both the b18c and b16a studs with my PR3 head, don't take the chance.

The way you choose the head studs is go with whatever block you have, same with the head gaskets. If you have a B18c block, use a B18c studs and headgaskets because if you use a B16 studs, its too short and it will strip because the B16 block is shorter than B18c and it doesnt have long enough threads to catch the block. If u have a B18b or Ls/Vtec, you would use a B18b studs and Ls headgasket, not vtec headgasket.
I have expierence within the last week of the b18c1 and b16a head studs. The b18c1 head is larger than the PR3. Using the b18c1 studs with the PR3 head will result in the nut reaching the end of the thread (what do you mean "what nut", last I check a headstud only uses one nut). Sorry I can't make this any more simple. This will be my last post on the subject. I really don't care what yoy do, I'm just relaying the information I found and experience I went through putting my last motor together.
Edit - I just check ARP's catalog and they don't even have a listing for the b18c5.

i used b18c studs on my ls-vtec, b18a block with 2000 type-r head. didn't need to modify anything & had plenty of thread to torque the head down.
Anyone that is doing the LS/VTEC (B18a/b block w/vtec head) conversion disregard what turbo dandee mentioned about using B18b head studs. B18c head studs are the studs of choice. Just don't want people to be misinformed....
