bad gas mileage
I have a 95 accord lx auto and my fuel mileage is slowly getting worse. Is there anything electronic on these cars that could cause the mpg's to go south? I have heard that the MAP and O2 sensors could be a possible cause. Any help would be appreciated
there are many things that can affect your fuel economy. make sure the tires have the correct air pressure. check your fuel lines for leaks.
do you have an engine light? most of the time a senor malfunction will engage the engine light.

recently had the tired balanced and rotated. Air pressure is spot on. no engine lights on. If there is a fuel leak I cant see it. Ive only had the car for a few months but I changes the oil and tranny fluid right when i brought it home. The only thing that I havent done is the fuel filter, but that is going on this weekend.
Sounds like u might have your egr ports clogged with carbon. It wont throw a cel code if the ports are clogged only if the egr valve itself is malfunctioning. Underneither your fuel rail is a egr passage plate and under neither that is 4 small homes that go into your intake. They need cleaned every 100k miles. If your egr system is malfunctioning. It will cause power loss, bad gas mileage, and sometimes a slight miss. Check the forums and see if there is a guide if not let me know ill get one. I have the same car I'm pretty sure that your problem. And if not it should improve your motor. And all u need is some Carb cleaner so your not out anything just time
I checked the forums and havent been able to find the guide. If you have one that would be awesome. The car seems to do good for almost the first 1/2 tank and then guzzles the rest. Used my gps to check the mileage and i seem to be getting around 20 mpg. I cruise at about 67-68 mph on the freeway which is where the car spends 90% of its time.Ive heard that these cars should at least be getting in the low 30's on the highway.

If you haven't done the spark plugs recently, I'd take a look at those. Be sure you purchase good replacements (NGK is pretty reputable and at local stores).
- EGR Port Cleaning
- Cleaning the IACV, FITV and TB
- Oil change
- Checking your transmission fluid level (potentially changing it - drain and refill)
- Air filter
How is the GPS doing your gas mileage? Any CEL's?
You *could* have a lazy O2 sensor where it's not bad enough to throw an error but just enough to mess you up.

I had a problem with gas mileage going down and power getting worse. Did all the usual. Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, oil change, fuel filter, egr and Ports, cleaned injectors that all helped but not much. Then i went through and replaced all of the ground wires under the hood and even did the positive wires. The car ran like a atheist from a church
Better fuel mileage: try using the write oil i have a 91 accord i use 5w-30 sg instead of 10-40 or straight 30. Keep tires inflated to min, keep weight out of car like excess junk in the trunk ect... Check o2 & EGR to make sure clean and good. Also checked the catolic converter it was clogged so replaced it. It's stock motor standard 5 speed," auto trans get less mpg ". and i get 31 mpg. Looking into k&n filter and changing air intake plus other modes now to see how they work on mpg. Any one who knows about modes please post on power % increase and mileage increase. Also 50 pound of weight = to like 1.5 mpg loss. I tried that out by carrying weights after i saw how to test it in a mag. and removed luggage rack the lady before me had to decrease the wind drag on the car.

Actually yes. When i replaced all of the ground wires it did help. Fixed my problem. As you know electricity travels through the plug wire to the spark plug. It fires through the electrode and grounds through the block, through the ground wires and back to the battery. Electricity always finds the path of least resistance. Therefore by replacing the ground wires i was able to make the spark much bigger and cleaner by making it's path less resistant. I only figured that out because I'm a electrician and it's just not that hard to think of.

By replacing the grounds it made the path less resistant because the old ones were corroded and the coating had shrunk and torn exposing the copper. I'm not sure if you know this or not but electricity does not travel THROUGH the wire, it travels on the outside of the wire/strands. therefore by not having coating on it and it being in a close quarters like an engine compartment, it"shorts" out by jumping from the write to another grounding source causing it to slow down and creates friction and heat and heat is wasted energy that could be used as another power source.
