Default I need a remote start - which one?

As the weather gets colder I am really wanting to get a remote starter for my DD '00 Silverado. I'm really not the type to drop my truck off at best buy and pay the bill. I know all the internet guides act like I'll burn my car to the ground if I don't have it professionally installed, but I've done stereos, fuel injection, engine management, etc... I'm pretty confident I can handle it. Especially if I can save a buck.

My truck has keyless entry, but I really don't want to carry two key fobs. I've seen some kits that work with your factory keyless entry fob, by just using a combination of lock/unlock...any experience with these?

I like the idea of starting with my phone, but those kits seem pretty high dollar, and I have not seen one that didn't require a service plan (no thanks).

That leaves kits with keyless start and entry. Are these kits going to work even though there is an existing oem keyless entry system? My old fobs are pretty beat up anyway.

Any input on brands to get or avoid, or where to buy is appreciated.

The add on units that work thru your factory units sucks. And is not allways acurate. Sometimes will not trigger the remote start. You do not need a piggy back system. Or need to carry your oem remote. Just the remote start alarm and the express kit to control your truck thru the obd port.

Was looking at the Python 414 from Crutchfield for $199 but it looks like it's out of stock.

Their tech says to use this with it:

I never used that unit before. I carry dei products so I don't venture out if its not needed. But they all do the same. Also on that truck you have to hook up all ignition wires and starter wires. If not its a coslty trip to the dealer when the tranny kicks a cel and you drive on it. It tears ups a couple sensors in the tranny. So be careful.

Ditto the above^^^, kind of
I have not used that unit either, but as mentioned, they all do pretty much the same thing, "bypass" the cars stock immobilizer when remote starting, we use the Fortin INT-SL+ it will give you immobilizer bypass and tach, door locks are easy enough to do, although depending on the remote start you get, you may need relays to give you a pos.(+) door lock/unlock output, it does not "interfere" with the stock key-less entry, it uses it. 94
