Type R Cams with B16A Boost
Hey Ht, gotten down to building my head for my b16A build. So far the bottom end has 81.5mm cp pistons with manley turbo rods, micro-polish and balanced b16A crank, darton race sleeves, etc. I was wondering, I've heard people on HT and read a few threads about people gaining 15-20 HP from the ITR cams, with no modification to the valvetrain. If I were to run Stage 2 itr cams(skunk 2 or BC) (i figure stage 3 would require to much) what mods would i have to do to the valvetrain. I was planning to do a supter tech rebuild of the b16A head but i kinda wanted more power. If it does matter, i'll be running hondata s300 with and lsd gsr trans.
For starters, when you read people talking about xx HP from an ITR cam they mean like an OEM Honda ITR cam. If you're talking an aftermarket cam from Skunk2 or BC then a B-series cam is a B-series cam (B16, B18, etc have the same part numbers), it just goes by what "Stage" you want.
Most companies say for their Stage 1 cams that stock valvetrain is OK (as is the case if you used OEM ITR cams), but anything Stage 2 or up you need their upgraded valve springs and retainers. Just go on whoever's website you're buying from and they will tell you what is required for your valvetrain for each specific cam.
