well first off your mechanic is wrong BOTH manifolds are the same the only difference would be the f22b is a vtec whereas ur wifes car is non v,the engine will mount up just fine and run without any check engine codes if you use your intake manifold, your harness, your distrbutor and coil because the vtec engine has an internal coil and the non v is external, the only thing is you wont have vtec and where vtec should kick in lt will tach out of course you can make the vtec work a couple different ways but may get costly and tideous but if you need help with that i can help ya out there to...

Is the 97 that you found an F22B1 VTEC or another F22B2 Non VTEC?

If it is a 96-97 F22B2 all you need to do is swap over your original OBD1 distributor and coil. The intake and exhaust ports on the head are the same and you can keep your original equipment.

crank pos sensor on block you can remove or leave unplugged if you use ur harness it dosent have plug for that cause its obd 1 nd computer isnt looking for it so no code and engine will still run fine...

The new motor is a non v also. So since both motors are non v motors its a striaght plug and play? With the exception of the crank sensor i should be able to plug all my original equipment with no modifications

it is called an engine replacement, not a swap or anything like that...
just put it in EXACTLY like the Factory service manual says to.

Yes the computer (ECU) still looks for those 2 sensors TDC & CKP. And yes the ECU will throw a code if you do not hook them up.

The top dead center (TDC) and crank position sensor (CKP) on the OBD2 F22B2 are mounted on the oil pump housing. On your original OBD1 engine they are both found in the distributor along with the cylinder position sensor (CYP). Use your OBD1 distributor and you will have no issues with the crank sensor. You can remove the OBD2 sensors or just leave them there. Choice is yours!
