How to put an engine on a stand....
Just assemble the hoist, lift the engine level to the stand, and use the tranny bolts to bolt the engine to the stand. be sure to evenly distribute the arms and make sure it is all level and that the engine won't fall when the hoist isn't holding it.
Honestly, I wouldn't advise bolting the engine stand to the crank (even if it could be done)
unless it was a Le Rhône rotary from a WW1 airplane. If your stand is like mine, you'll need
some extra-long bolts to bolt the mount attachment to the transmission side of the block.
Since this piece is usually seperate, you can bolt it on first; then lay the stand on its side and
slide the mount shaft into the stand. Then, you and a buddy lift it up the engine until the stand
sits in a normal position.
Or just rent an engine hoist for $20 bucks.
good luck
