Anyone recommend a site for complete rebuild kits? (F23A1)

Hello,

I have a 1998 Honda Accord that has 145K miles on it. I bought it used at 130K, but it started running really rough, stalling, acceleration issues, shaking, etc… I took it to a mechanic and he said that one of the cylinders indicates zero compression. I bought another car to replace it, so I want to rebuild the Honda and get it running again. The engine is an F23A1, according to VIN (I’ll know more when I get it out).

What I need help in is where to purchase a rebuild kit. I don’t want to do anything that is high performance, just standard stock rebuild, however a search of the internet shows prices from as low as $360 to as high as $1000 so I am wondering if there is a reputable place to make such a purchase. I have checked out the following, any comments are welcomed:

http://www.cleggengine.com
http://www.rpmmachine.com
http://www.rpmrons.com
http://www.westendengineparts.com

Also, I was looking for an all inclusive kit that had timing belt, water pump, oil pump, etc… I assume that since I have the engine out, I might as well replace the oil pump and the water pump… is this overkill or recommended?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

SnoopyMan.

P.S. If anyone knows of a good machine shop in South Jersey or Philadelphia, let me know.

This is for a kinda crappy car. A 1998 Honda Accord my oldest son (23yrs) paid $2500 for, so I am reluctant to pay Honda prices for parts. He just needs a reliable car to go back and forth to work in.

Most of the kits I have looked at are a little too "one size fits all" when it comes to bearings. In my engine, according to the engine coding there are multiple sizes across the crank. i.e. Out of five bearings, two are brown, and three are yellow/green; something like that anyway. So, receiving standard bearings may not provide the best of correct oil clearance for the crank, especially since there is some wear since new. It's still in specs, but there is some wear.

Issue with engine was an exhaust valve with a hole in it, so If I just would have done the head I could saved myself a lot of time and effort. However, I always wanted to take an engine apart... so I have received my wish!

Thanks,
