CEL comes on when VTEC engages - goes OFF when disengages?
I bought an EK with a JDM B18C GSR swap in it yesterday... basic bolt ons (skunk2 IM, MSD Distro, DC Sport Headers, Test Pipe) and then I ordered a basemap from Phearable.
I disabled the VPS (Vtec Pressure Sensor) on the ECU and grounded it out (since vtec stopped working all together after I got the basemap... I think the previous basemap had it disabled as well when I test drove the car).
PR4 with vtec conversion (essentially a p28) is my ECU------------------
Now or my issue.... I thought it was just a "shift" light when i test drove the car, but now I notice it only happens when VTEC engages (since we changed the VTEC crossover from 5500 to 4800)
I'll be driving the car, at 4800 VTEC engages, and the CEL comes on, until I drop out of VTEC.... then the light goes off!
It's almost like someone wired the CEL up as a VTEC indicator light?
Or is this a more serious issue, something wrong with the VTEC solenoid?
I definitely would rather this didnt happen since I have a "shift" light come on at 8000 rpms before it redlines, I would rather see that instead of the vtec light.
Has anyone run into this issue before or did the previous owner have some weird *** wiring going on with that?
I am certain VTEC is engaging cuz it makes that vtec sound (we all know what this sounds like lol)

I would have the ECU scanned for codes. If no codes it is possible some tard wired the VTEC to the CEL light. I see others running seperate lights to the cluster that turn on and off when VTEC engages.
i had a friend who got an ecu from the same place. His was JUNK and nothing worked right, and it ended up frying a day after he got it.
Lol. let me clarify that i didnt get the ECU from phearable, i only got a basemap. I already had an ECU.
The car had this issue BEFORE i put the basemap onto the ECU, so it has nothing to do with the phearable basemap at all.
And maybe your friend just had a junk one, I had an ECU from them for my h22 (that was recently stolen, the car was) and it was great.
there are no codes. zero. none zilch
it just kinda flashes like "ding" with i does vtec and then turns off after i leaves vtec
