Luck with coilovers
This is an informational posting that is directed to a specific kit that I had to deal with the past 18 months. So have that in mind as you read below.
I have a 2007 Si sedan and decided to swap out the stock suspension with something better. After working with VWs over the years and dealing with Eibach, H&R, Bilstein and Koni I didn't follow the norm and went with a coilover system. I looked around and was told that for the money the D2 Racing coilovers were the way to go. How wrong was I?
I removed them off my car last week. And it was the best thing I did. Rust all over the springs. One of the rear shocks was blown, leaking oil. The built quality is horrible. The ride quality is just the same. The 36-step adjustment is a joke. This is a kit I would steer people away from. One of the worst investments I ever made. And it was not cheap.
I now ride on brand new hardware (bearings, top plates, bushings, etc.) and went back to what I know best. Eibach Pro-kit lowering springs with a Skunk2 sport shock set. Mind you I don't trust the Skunk brand as much (was thinking of going with Tokico Blue) but I'm willing to give them a try.
Feel free to reach out to me if you want more feedback on my D2 Racing experience. One that I do not wish anyone else has to deal with.
Thanks guys.
