Default 93 del sol - 5200 rpm redline with P28 ECU

I need some help with my del sol.. I dropped in a jdm d15b vtec-e single stage vtec motor for mpg purposes.. The car is my go to car if my main car breaks down. I was driving it around for a couple weeks and noticed if i get the car up to a 5200 rev the car sounds like its hitting redline.. I am running the car with a p28 ecu and have the vtec solenoid and pressure switched hooked straight to the ecu. The ground i just put on the vtec solenoid bolt. There is plenty of oil in the car so i know its not a problem there. I am not getting any check engine lights while driving. I switched the ecu to the p06 (ecu with no vtec) and throwing no codes there also. Same problem hitting the 5200 rev redline kinda feel..The reason why i am trying to fix this problem is that im trying to pass someone on the freeway or merge and its almost impossible. Anyone know what is going on?

The P28 is the right ecu...the P06 won't throw any codes because it will ignore the vtec system.

Is the ignition timing within specifications?
Is the Ecu Chipped? if so, how was it tuned?
When was your last tune-up (plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, fuel and air filters, PCV)?

When you hit 5200 Rpm or so...it is just refusing to go any higher, or is acting like it is bouncing off of a rev limiter?

Have you tried completely disconnecting the VTEC system and running the P06 and see if the problem still exists?

I have tried running the car without the vtec hooked up with the p06 ecu and exact same problem engine revs to 5200 and car bogs.. I have replaced the plugs recently. I think maybe its time to try the cap and rotor..I also have never replaced the fuel filter as well.. could try that while im at it..the plugs are new..as far as the p28 ecu is not chipped..i have a aftermarket cold air intake on the car from aem..i have not touch the bottom air filter on it...ill check the timing tomorrow as well

The CAI is not going to cause that issue unless the filter is extremely dirty.

I would try the fuel filter first, it may be clogged up enough that it is reducing your fuel flow and pressure. This would be the equivalent of fuel cut-off at higher engine speeds (your 5200 Rpm in this case) and would limit the engine's speed. I hope this helps

If you got the VTEC e then your VTEC isn't for power, engaging that solenoid should cause one of the intake valves to open only slightly giving you better mpgs in lean burn mode
