Lately when I start up my 97 Civic it's chugging. It seems to ease out once the engine warms up. I also thought I felt it shaking once or twice. It's pretty up there in age and mileage. I'm just hoping for it to last me through the year. Can anyone tell me what this problem might be? I change the oil myself and always use the right grade...but other than that I'm pretty lost when it comes to figuring out what the issue is.

You're going to have to define chugging. Is your Check Engine light on?

No check engine light. It almost sounds like when a truck is idle, except quieter than that. I've recently switched states and I think there may be more ethanol in the gas here. Could that be the problem?

Possible exhaust leak? The manifolds tend to crack between second and third runners. Mine sounded like an old Datsun pickup when it was cold.
