Do I have transmission problems?
Hi Guys,
A friend and I are working on a CRX swap. The car is a 89 CRX with D16A6 with manual trans, we are putting in a D16Z6 from a 92-95 Civic, but we use the old trans from the D16A6 motor, with new a clutch and pressure plate.
Currently, the swap is done, and we found out maybe we have problems with the transmission, when we try to put back the axles and try to tighten the axle nuts.
The observations are:
1. If we turn the crank, the axles will turn, and if we switch into different gear, the axle turns at different rate as the crank is turned, and if we put it into reverse, the axle turns in opposite direction, so it seems good, but we can easily stop the axle from turning by hands.
2. if we turn the axle by hand, the pressure plate does not turn.
so when we try to tighten the big axle nut, the axle just keep turning. We tried to put it into gear (1 to 5 and reverse), hoping the engine will stop the axle from turning, but it does not.
So, is the transmission bad? Or maybe we should put the car on the ground and then tighten the axle nut?
Or is it normal? I mean, do we have to stop the other axle before this axle can turn the engine?
Thanks!
