car audio/speaker question
So I have an 09 TSX, and the factory speakers SUUUCK (I have the tech package, so wtf)-- There's actually a service bulletin about them. Rather than take my car in time after time to have them replace the speakers, I'd like to just upgrade the stock ones to a nice aftermarket speaker.
My TSX has a factory sub, I just want to replace the speakers, not the whole system. How do I know what speakers will work without needing extra juice from an amp? here is a snapshot from acura of the sound system:
I've been searching crutchfield for a decent upgrade without going overboard (Really only looking to replace the 4 speakers in the doors). But I have no idea what i'm doing when it comes to watts, 2-way,3-way speakers, etc? Can someone help?

360 watts of power
The 360-watt sound system has a total of seven speakers. A pair of tweeters are positioned in the top of the instrument panel, and two 6.3-inch drivers are positioned in the front doors. The rear deck has another pair of 6.3-inch drivers, along with an 8-inch subwoofer. An in-glass antenna located in the rear window is optimized to help deliver enhanced radio reception. Remote audio controls on the 3-spoke steering wheel put frequently used functions within fingertip reach of the driver.

If the speakers and amp are running at 4ohm, you could replace the stock speakers with aftermarkets.
If you know the RMS or nominal power rating of the stock amp to each speaker, you can use that to choose aftermarkets.
Note that the factory speakers are designed for the car, so replacing with just any old speaker will probably not sound as good as factory.
If I were you I would replace them all, and use an aftermarket amp. Get something like a JL Audio Clean Sweep a good 4-channel amp to run everything. The factory sub is probably best left alone to run off the factory amp, unless you replace that with aftermarket too.

That's the thing, I don't know what the power ratings are for my speakers-- I don't know anything about car audio really. I don't jam out with super loud music or bass. I just want crisp, clear sound. Online it says my stock amp is 410 watts and 10 speakers-1 per door, 2 tweeters, 1 center mid-range, 2 rear surround, 1 powered 8-inch subwoofer
I'd honestly probably just want to replace the door speakers for now, since those are most noticeably fuzzy/distorted at all volume levels
I was looking at the pioneer TSA1673 and alpine type-s-- basically anything i could get away with just keeping the stock amp. if i did do an amp, i'd want to keep it as cost effective as possible.

I would look into some Infinity 2way componant set for the front and just a set of mids for the rear, if the sub is working leave it.
With that said, the limiting facture with OEM audio systems is power, [RMS wattage], it would not surprize me one bit that that "360 watts" is peak power all channels driven, "total power", the actual RMS wattage will be much less, probably less then 1/2.
That does not mean you can't get good sound out of the system, the biggest problem will be to get speakers that fit properly, [very important for good sound].
I would pull the stock speakers so you can see exactly what size the are, [mounting hole diameter].
Whatever you get for speakers, get them from an authorized dealer, if you do not, you will not get manufactuers warranty, and if you buy on line, [Sonic Electronix] read the fine print for warranty and return policy. 94

Have you read the Sonic Electronix "Return Policies", I dare you...

All it says is if you return it you lose 10% but if you have to exchange you don't lose anything. Where's the problem? They lose money for people returning items therefore you don't get a full refund unless its an exchange basically they don't want you buying and returning for a free demo or trial of item. Reasonable return policy
Sorry, I should not have used Sonic Electronix as the example, obviously you have had good luck with them, or you work for them, either way, it is all good.
I prefer to support my local retailer, I may know someone whose job depends on it.
I also prefer not to have to get an RA, or repackage in it's original container with all parts, ship/mail and wait for it's return, I prefer to go back to the local shop I got it from, put it on the counter and get a new one right then, [30 day warranty/over the counter exchange] or at worse have them do all the packaging and shipping and call/text me when it's back, [1 year parts and labour warranty].
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for saving a few $$$ but the cheapest is hardly ever the best value. 94

I can agree with you there and I'm only recommending because of good experiences with them, I'd prefer local also if I could get it cheap but everywhere near me it's overpriced, and yes you get what you pay for is true but why pay twice the amount for the same product? I believe the site carrys infinity which I noticed you recommended and I don't know about where your from but here they're expensive unless ordered online just like any other speaker in my area but if its only a couple bucks locals better your right
