Default Clutchmasters FX500 Mix/Match w/ other mfr discs?

I fairly recently purchased a 00 EM1 with a B20VTEC.

The engine was built to hold a stupid N2O shot, and they used a CM FX500 clutch in it.

Short story is: I HATE IT. Pedal pressure is not all that bad, but I hate the harshness of the disc. I'm assuming it's an unsprung 4 puck due to the harshness of the engagement.

My DC2 had a Competition Stage 4 6 puck sprung disc clutch & PP. It wasn't NEARLY as harsh. Pedal pressure felt good.

I haven't seen any CM discs for sale...just kits.

Has anyone ever used a disc from another brand kit (Comp, ACT, etc) with a CM Pressure plate with good results? I did at one time talk to a retailer about a replacement CM plate, and they were considerably more expensive than Comp or ACT discs.

Anyone ever used a Comp or ACT disc with a CM pressure plate? (Seriously only interested in first-hand knowledge, here)

You should be fine! I have an FX400 short story, I had just finished buying all the parts for the Project and finaly after 3years I was gona drive my boost built motor on NA for the 1st time in 3years. I dropped the ****** Disc down a Flight of stairs and broke it. Me being broke, impatient and feening to drive it.
I put an old Stock disc in there and the car ran fine!

If your planning Street and are under 350-400ft-lbs Torque I would use a Sprung disc. A Segmented Kevlar or Ceramic Material would probably be best.

To answer your question it should be fine if you use a cheaper disc.
And yes, the FX500 is an Unsprung(Solid Hub) RACE ONLY System.

Honestly was looking at using a Comp Stage 4 ceramic 6-puck sprung disc.

Talked to Clutchmasters, and the tech support guy said I might need to replace the PP b/c the Stage 5 discs are ROUGH on the PP.

Considering a CM DISC was quoted me at $235...and I can get a full Comp kit for about $50 more than that....Looks like I may be going that route.

I would just throw the Comp disc in there personally, because i'm on a Budget. I would Replace the Thrust Bearing while your in there.
But, yes the FX500 does use a more aggresive PP than FX1-4. So it's going to put more of a beating on the Disc mainly the Springs , which could potentially lead to a catastrophe... So the safest option would probably be to get the Comp kit.
