Default No Tstat on crome?

Recently got a new 95 gsr and the owner had no tstat.

The car is on crome i think just on a basemap but really have no idea.

I do know the car ran alot worse with my stock p72 than his crome p72.

I have an oem to put in but im worried itll mess it up.

The car does run very cool but it gets up to the 1/4 mark while driving and idling will get to just under half and then the fan will turn on.

Can crome be tuned to run good or better without it or should i just install it?

I've been reading alot about this problem and the weird thing is half the people say it will make it run hot due to less flow pressure and the others say it will run too cool.

thanks for any input and btw i would have tested it myself but i can not get the lower bolt of the tstat housing i already stripped it. If i go to install it ill have to remove the starter so i just want input before i go at it again.

The thermostat is what controls the coolant temperature, an engine running at less then optimum temp. is almost as bad as one running hot.

I have heard people say that, [engine will run hot without a thermostat] but I have worked on more then a few cars without thermostats and not one of them ran hot, all of them had the same problem, low engine temp., replace the thermostat with an OEM one. 94

I also think there might be a small leak somewhere that leaks at high rpms, i can smell coolant when i get on it. Do you know of a good method for finding leaks without a pressure tester?
