I overfiled one of my top compression piston rings for a set of Arias 81.5mm bore. Needless to say the ring end gap is too excessive. Any chance I can go with an OEM ring or another manufacturer if Arias doesn't sell them separately?

I can't call till they're open tomorrow...but I'd like to know if I have alternate options if they try to charge an arm and a leg or only sell them in complete sets.

 

No. You want to use the same ring.
And you won't be able to buy a single ring.

 

Called Arias and spoke to Elmer. They actually sell them individually by the ring. It's on its way. Summit also carries some rings but you need to know the thickness in addition to the bore size and they sell them in sets per piston. In my case Arias uses a 1.2 mm thickness ring. I'm more comfortable buying directly from the piston manufacturer rather than trying to match it up through an aftermarket source so it's worth the wait for shipping from the west coast.

Not an entirely costly mistake but an unexpected delay...$10 per ring plus shipping. Next time I'll be more precautious when filing.
