Water inside tail light, pours into trunk upon opening trunk
So when it rains and I open my trunk water leaks from the area circled in picture #1. I'm hoping it won't short out my electric one day. Is there a common occurrence of that happening to a '90 lx 5speed? I can not distinguish how the water gets into the casing there. The trunk seal looks in great shape but I've been looking into it and I notice this little webbing bump is not sealed into the trunk like the other side. Is it possible water is running down the cowls into that hole across the ceiling of my trunk door under the webbing into the open top of the trunk door light, not panel side? Any suggestions will help.
Water residue after its dried up on inside of trunk webbing. Little hard to see I. The picture but trust me it's there haha Anyhelp or suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Either re-seal the tail light gaskets or install new ones....yes, the right pass side seems to leak more than the drivers left ?
At some point if this is not addressed, might be too late already, then rust will start to form on the tail light failure sensor.

Yes only passenger side not driverside. Seals as in around the white housing inside the light casing? Or seal as in around the entire trunk. If you are referring to seals around the white housing that would deffinatley explain that serious gap where water is coming from I just hope it would stop the water from even pooling in the brake light housing it self. Ill look into it
The seals where the rear light "meets" the body of the car. From inside the trunk, you will need to remove that white cover, then you should see @ four 8mm nuts, remover those.....don't drop them or you'll spend some time tring to find them - don't ask
. Once those are out you can pull the light assy away from the body, yes pull the electrical plug.
Clean the body side metal where the gasket contacts....getting rid of the dirt. Then either install new gaskets #6 in the attached for the outer, #18 for the inner. Or if you decide, you can run a bead of silicone on both sides of the old gasket and re-install...of course let the silicone set.

wow awesome description thank you very much. will be picking up these gaskets tomorrow and will be leaving an update thanks again.
Same problem with my sons gf's 2000 accord. Silicone on the gasket fixed the leak for little money. Gasket is probably the better way.
