I am having a **** all time with getting tach signal to it. I've fabricated an OBD0 to D-sub sub harness. I have the pump and all the sensors communicating. But nothing from the TDC sensor not even noise on the data logging.
What version of MS are you using?
You may need to adjust the resistor trim pots R52 & R56 if it is a newer version.

Ms2 v3 board. I can't even get signal to idle the car, adjusting the pots is impossible.
I'd assume that even with the phasing wrong I'd see some signal in the logger; there's nothing.

No, if the pots are not phased (zero'd) properly and the jumpers aren't in place. You won't see anything in a datalog. I spent a full day calibrating Honda sensors just to see if they would work. And the TDC wouldn't even show. Until I adjusted the two pots to be and the jumpers positioned as per that link I supplied.
If you remove the cover/case the two adjustable resistors would be visible on the main board.

I am familiar with the pod location
I built the thing.
What jumpers are you referring to? This isn't the surface mount 3.5 board. This is hand soldered.

adjusting the pots did nothing. matter of fact, now the stimulator doesn't sync, no tach input from it.

i give up, ordering a neptune/demon RTP package with the OBD0-OBD1 harness and RD1 display along with the MTX-1 wideband for the car.
funk that noise.

What sensor are you using for your input signal? You should use the TDC sensor if you are not.
MegaSquirt-II PCBv3.0
Mods Required:
- Build the VR conditioner circuit, as described in Step 51 of the MegaManual. All our preassembled Megasquirts with the V3.0 board come with this circuit installed.
- Jumper TachSelect to VRIN.
- Jumper TSEL to VROUTINV.
- You may need to adjust the VR trim pots, R52 and R56, when this is installed on a running engine. A usual base setting is to turn them all the way counterclockwise.
- Jumper JS10 to IGBTIN and IGBTOUT to IGN.
- Install a TIP120 or similar switching transistor in the Q16 slot. You will not be using this to drive the coil directly so you do not need a transistor meant for serving as an ignition module, although an ignition transistor like a BIP373 will work too.

yep, the TDC, i have read that instruction many times, as well as the specific instruction on how to wire the OBD0 car for MS. i think my MS is actually not working right, and i am quite frankly done with it.
That is unfortunate as they are a pretty comprehensive tuning tool.
Wish there was some easy fix for you. The Neptune Demon is probably a better choice for a Honda anyway!

i tried using MS because i had it laying around from my turbo Zcar days. i assembled it almost 10 years ago, and i do not have the patience to reverse engineer my mistakes from then. i'll give a repair place like DIYautotune a shot, and then install the ODB1 system.

i have been having trouble registering there (i think something is telling me to go with honda ECU). i have been talking to tech support at DIYautotune, so we'll see what happens.
No im not saying that at all. Any Honda based tuning platform is childsplay compared to any of the full EMS solutions. MS is probably the hardest platform because you have to know the hardware AND software. But from what Ive seen the software is good and there is alot of support on the MS forum. I have a couple friends on MS and my tuner is proficient with it too.

So, with you experience, is it worth pursuing the MS or should I convert to OBD1 and obtain Neptune? I am attracted to Neptune for various reasons, but do not want to invest in an inferior platform.
Why did you start with MS intially? Most race cars need digital inputs, multiple injector or coil drivers beyond what a Honda ECU can handle. But if you didnt need any of these hardware features then it doesnt make much sense.
Id like to see a larger MS presence in Hondas but its not for the beginner. I use Neptune, its a great platform. If Neptune has all the features you want then it doesnt make sense to add complexity.

Hey Ash, I'll tell you this. I have dealt with both megasuirt and Neptune for the Honda platform and I'll tell you honestly. The obd tuning solutions are definitely solid. Neptune has rock solid idle control and all the standard idle ups that come with an oem ecu. The megasquirt is good also as you expect with something that has such good support, however it takes a lot of calibrating and setting up to get where the neptune is right from the start. The good thing about the squirt is that it is highly configurable in terms of ign setups and numerous input and output controls. My buddy went from Wasted spark to coil on plug in about 20 mins just configuring the settings.
In summary, the Honda OBD1 tuning solution (Neptune) works flawlessly and is easy to control. Controls the biggest of injectors with ease and has rock solid idle control. If however you have the time to configure a squirt from scratch, you will have almost unlimited inputs and outputs. I do recommend getting the ms3 though, the lastest one.
one last thing, the good thing about the Neptune RTP is that the Check Engine light still works. I've seen a few people with the megasquirt have problems and don't know where to start checking. I have access to both, but right now I'm still running Neptune RTP.
