I bought a 90 accord 2 days ago, it is 5spd, the seller said that he just had the clutch changed. i only drove the car for 20 miles then it started smoke from the tranny from the open hole where you can see the flywheel next to the engine code. while this happen, i lost 1st gear, i cant shift into the 1st. i tried to take off with 2nd gear after a while it wouldn't go into any gear except 4th gear from the shifter even when the car is off so i got the car towed home. today i tried to drive with 2nd it just stuck in the 2nd i cant take it out anymore.

has anybody had this problem? is my tranny broken or the clutch installed wrong? Yes, i did search but i want know, if the clutch or pressure plate is bad can you still can shift into gears when the car is not running right? because i took off a civic tranny before i was be able to shift with the screw driver from the linkage.

 

sounds like when the clutch was changed it wasn't installed correctly AND no tranny fluid was put back in after the change, more than likely it's toast.

ALSO, have you checked the linkage at the tranny and at the shifting box? there are clips that hold the linkage in and if they pop off, you cannot shift.

 

i looked the linkages that it seems fine, when a friend shifting inside my car the linkage is trying to push out gear but the tranny wont let it .
checked the fluid my finger can reach from the fill hole but it fluid is very very thick and dirty.

 

can you unhook the linkage and move the gears? trans might be no good. If you unhook the linkage and cannot change the gears by hand, You sir, have a bad trans.

i uphooked the linkage, the shifter moves freely.
can A bad pressure plate, clutch disk or a fork cause the car wont go into any gear or stuck in a gear when the car is OFF?

 

Don't move the shifter, unhook the linkage AT the trans and move the 2 arms the linkage hooks to, might have to use some force, you can put more force on it than the linkage can.

When you start the car, and let out the clutch, does it make any noises or anything.?
