Default Thinking about rebuilding my 92 H23A

Hi, Anyone from Sac, CA that knows a good place to get an engine rebuilt? I'm thinking it might be better to just get my H23 rebuilt then go with a JDM h22 for smogging reasons. (I've heard that if you have a JDM engine, your car won't pass smog whether it be test only or not. Is this true?) I did a compression test a week ago and got some really low readings out of the first cylinder. The results were 120, 210, 195, 190 (cylinder 1-->4), plus it blows black smoke out of my exhaust with I punch the gas. I get a burnt rubber smell and have this nasty black dust covering my bumper so I'm not sure what is wrong with the car. I've lost a lot of low end torque but it still picks up on the free way. Any ideas or suggestions?

yea i get ALOT of black smoke when i punch the gas too, but i think alot of cars out there does it, i would def think imma running way too rich, but i have being told otherwise, so if anyone are SURE about this, please let me know also, if i cover my muffler with my hands.. you will see alot of black dots, soon your hand wil be black. BTW if you gonna change the valve, change them ALL, i THINK honda recommand car owners to change them every 15000, but thats bs lolz, but it will show improvements if you do change them all once a while

no matter what a rebuild will be expensive. i can understand your situation with the jdm motor. see what you can do to have it smogged. i'm sure people in cali have with jdm motors.

if not, a usdm h22a might be a nice option. longblocks can be had for $1500 with very decent mileage.

i know most import shops and regular shops would charge an easy $2000 for a rebuild using stock parts. and this is mostly for seals, gaskets, bearings. anything extra usually costs more. the labor is very expensive.

black smoke= running rich
blue smoke= burning oil
white smoke= burning coolant

Pretaining to the low-end hesitation, try adjusting your valves and timing.
